Music, music, music......I love music!

It is such an important part of my life. I like finding new groups and songs....it feels like a treasure hunt! A month ago I found myself listening to the same songs over and over and decided it was time for a change. I got onto 93.3 (a local radio station) and started listening to some songs. I found that there were quite a few bands that I like and so I got some of their music and have been listening since. Here are the some of the bands that I found:

Update on the Nikki front.....a little late but here at least

Nikki has been limping the good part of 2012. She must have hurt herself the middle of January and has been off and on using her left rear leg. Matt and I have been discussing going to a specialist for a few weeks and have decided to taker her in last week Monday. After sedation, x-rays, and manipulation Dr Breshears of Parker Animal Emergency and Specialty Center diagnosed her as having a tear of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL tear).

We discussed TPLO surgery with Dr Breshears and decided that was the best path for us, and we decided earlier would be better so that we could stave off a possible injury to her other ACL. With me having sinus surgery a couple of weeks ago, we decided an extra hand would help out a lot and we called to ask Dad if he would be able to come out for the beginning of Nikki's recovery, and he agreed that would be a good idea.

Surgery went as scheduled on Thursday April 19th and we received notification that she did great. They keep TPLO patients overnight for observation as well as epidural pain medication. That was a difficult night for Enid as we could tell that she missed Nikki but was also enjoying having all of the attention.

We received a call pretty early on the next morning letting us know that Nikki was ready to be picked up.....as soon as we could get there as she was not calming down at all. We went and collected a very excited dog and took her home to her crate. Although she was not very excited about being in her crate she did calm down pretty quick and took a long nap.

Grandpa came out to help with her recovery. We are really blessed that he was able to stay for 6 weeks! I don't know how Matt and I could have done it without him. Her recovery went fairly smooth, but we did need to keep her sedated for about 2 weeks so that she wouldn't run and jump.

We will be calling this week to schedule the follow-up appointment to get radiographs to see how everything has healed.

The winds, they are a'changin...

I know it has been way too long since I wrote an update, so here it goes. I am still working in Boulder and the commute has not gotten any better - worse in fact. I do get to work out at a great gym in Boulder, and have an awesome trainer named Karie Kerner. She has been working with me for a little over a month and the routine that I am doing is so awesome! I feel stronger every time I do it. This week I will be increasing my cardio. I am also taking a Yoga class on Friday afternoons that have been challenging and exciting.

We had a really productive weekend cleaning and talking. I think that the next few weeks will be bringing about a lot of changes for us. More to come....

Update on getting back into shape....

Last week I was able to go to the gym twice and alas, Enid was not walked one day  :(

Matt and I were able to put in a lot of work on the yard this weekend (to get prepared for spring) which turned out to be a really good full body workout. I plan to go to the gym on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at least. I also want to walk Enid 4 nights this week.

I have been keeping up on drinking my shakes 2 times a day - at least on weekdays, but I have been eating snacks at night that I am going to be cutting out this week. I plan on continuing with the shakes during the week and cutting out dessert.

Here's to another good step towards a healthy life!!

I have to start slow....

I have been injured and/or sick for the better part of 5 months. Then on top of it, I had sinus surgery almost 3 weeks ago. It is difficult for me to hold back on going to the gym, going for a run, or doing my exercise videos. My mind is working overtime and my body can't keep up at this point. I know that I need to give myself a break, but it is so difficult when I want to get going already!

My goal this week is to go to the gym 3 times - Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. I plan to do cardio for 20 min and some light weight lifting. I also plan on walking Enid every night.

Plans within plans....

Matt and I have taken a back seat to this vacation thing long enough...we are taking the bull by the horns and going full steam ahead!

While that sentence does not make much sense, the idea behind it is simple enough: we are planning out small and medium size vacations and buying the tickets to make sure that they happen.

First trip will be to visit our dear friends Dean and Erin in Portland. Neither of us have been to this city, so this will be an adventure to top all others for 2012...so far  :)

Erin and I have never been really close, but I do love her dearly and hope that this trip will solidify our friendship at a deeper level. Also, I can't wait to see the physical changes she has made, since she is a full on runner now! She is a very talented, sweet, sassy woman that I enjoy spending time with and look very much forward to sharing an awesome weekend with her and Dean.

Ah, Dean Beeler...why don't you invite them up? You are a strange man Mr Dean, but for all of your quirky and semi-biotic (I think he is part robot) ways I love you just the way you are.  :)

I'm sure we will have a fantastic time in Portland, Dean and Erin will be great hosts and show us some of the most amazing things that the city has to offer....and of course Erin will make some awesome food as she always does.

Reminder....

It seems that there are a lot of people that have a hard time understanding what it means to be a friend. After a 3.5 second search on google I found this video that basically breaks it down.

What is a friend?

Healthcare reform for women

Although I vote for mostly Democrat and Independent candidate, I do not belong to a specific party. I vote for the people I feel will stand up for (what I consider to be obvious) rights of every person that they represent.

I voted for Obama, and although I do not think he has done all he has wanted to do within office, I think he has started off well and I plan to vote for him in the fall election. I feel one of the accomplishments of our government of late is the healthcare reform, specifically for women's health. I do think that it lacked the punch that it should of had, with say a public option, but there are some VERY good points that the new reform puts into place. For all those naysayers, here is a great link that describe the top 5 reasons that the new reform helps women:
